Ruby's new style, does it work?
Do you believe in change? Do you think that people change 360 degrees over night? Looks like everything is possible these days! Egyptian singer Ruby is a changed person as we see her in her last music video clip “Mosh Hate’dar”. The video clip is so bad and boring beyond imagination. She looked awful in the clip and the song was just boring. To make a video clip like this, where the singer sits around and we just listen; the song has to be captivating and full of original Tarab. Not a lot of singers can do it, only few can pull a video clip like this such as Fairuz, Kazim El Saher, George Wassouf or Majda El Roumi just to name a few.
If Ruby really wants to change she should work on something original to represent her age and career. She doesn’t have the best of voices but she caught our attention with her controversial videos clips. She made a name as a sexy singer that relies of her body and dancing to grab our attention and she wants to be serious about singer! Well I don’t thinks it’s going to work out. As a singer you can’t build a career in this industry based on your body. First, Ruby is already labeled as an artist who made it to the top because of your body. Second, if you are really fascinating your looks should not matter that much (look at how ugly Um Kolthum was). I respect artists who stick to what they believe in even if it was fake or wrong at least they believe in something. Haifa for example she knows that she does not have a good voice but she knows that she is entertaining.
Now is that a sign of what we are going to see next from other artists like Dana, Dominique and others, I hope not, because that will be such boring period in this exciting times of stupid entertaining videos clips. Now can we mention some exciting new videos that I think are master pieces. Melhem Zien “Mamnounek Ana” and Assi El Hillani’s “Bab Am Yabky”, woooow what fascinating video clips. The songs are amazing and the video clips reveal the meaning of the songs. They both should be nominated for awards. Melhem Zien is a true artist; the lyrics of the song are amazing. Finally, Assi El Hillani is always poetic about what he does; the song did put many people to tears. This was truly beautiful and believable. Now, Ruby and the rest, please learn from these two guys!
